The four adventures

The trilogy shipped fast. Deponia arrived on 7 August 2012 and Chaos on Deponia followed on 6 November of the same year, three months later. Goodbye Deponia closed the story on 17 October 2013. Deponia Doomsday came three years after that, on 1 March 2016, as an epilogue rather than a fourth chapter.

Critical reception climbed across the trilogy and then settled: 74, 78 and 80 on Metacritic for the three main games, with Doomsday at 76. All four are filed on Steam under Adventure and Indie, and all four run on Windows, macOS and Linux — unusual coverage for adventure games of that period, and the reason the series still installs cleanly on Linux today.

Achievement counts grow with the games: 19 in Deponia, 34 in Chaos on Deponia, 50 in Goodbye Deponia and 36 in Doomsday, for 139 across the four.

That growth is not padding. The first game's list is short because it mostly tracks story progress; by the third, the list has turned into a record of optional interactions, which is why a completionist run through Goodbye Deponia takes markedly longer than one through the original even though the two games are similar in length. Doomsday drops back to 36 partly because it is shorter and partly because its structure resists the kind of exhaustive room-sweeping the trilogy rewards. If you are planning a full run, budget your time by achievement count rather than by release order.

What The Complete Journey changes

Deponia: The Complete Journey (8 July 2014) collects the first three games and adds material that the standalone releases do not have: more than four hours of developer commentary, a world map for jumping to any chapter, a graphical questlog help system, help screens for the minigames, a new launch menu, new hidden collectables, six new songs written and performed by Poki, behind-the-scenes videos, and Linux support.

Daedalic's own store page states plainly that The Complete Journey does not include Deponia Doomsday. The collection predates it by two years. Buying the collection and expecting all four games is the most common purchasing mistake with this series.

The collection also carries a separate achievement list of 105 entries. 102 of them mirror achievements from the standalone games; three are exclusive to it — Story Time, Junkyard King and Journey Completed. Progress does not carry across between the collection and the standalone versions in either direction.

Surviving Deponia

Surviving Deponia is a survival-and-building game from Daedalic Entertainment and AtomicTorch Studio, set after Goodbye Deponia. Steam lists it as coming in 2026 with no month or day, its system requirements are still marked as undecided, and it is Windows-only at this stage. Its store page describes it as a stand-alone experience that gives fans a canonical answer about Elysium's fate and what became of Deponia's citizens.

Because none of its items, crafting recipes or systems have been published in a form that can be checked, this site does not carry a database for it. What is confirmed sits on its game page and nowhere else.

It is also worth being clear about what it is not. Surviving Deponia is not a point-and-click adventure and is not part of the numbered story — it changes genre entirely, and the studio credited alongside Daedalic, AtomicTorch, is known for survival systems rather than adventure design. Nothing about the four adventures depends on it. If you are here for the trilogy and its epilogue, you can ignore this entry completely; if you are here because you finished Goodbye Deponia and want to know what happens next, it is currently the only announced source of an answer, and that answer is not out yet.

Official language support

Language coverage varies a lot between releases, and it does not simply improve over time — Chaos on Deponia shipped in nine languages, Goodbye Deponia in seven. German and English have full voice acting throughout, which follows from Daedalic being a German studio and the series being written in German first.

The table counts store-listed localisation, which mixes full voice acting with subtitles-only support. Where Steam marks a language with full audio, the whole cast is dubbed; everywhere else you get the German or English performance with translated text.
